Modern Tiles is a tiles and homewares retailer, providing quality tile walls and floors in Erina, Established in 1970, they are a family owned and operated Central Coast tiling retail business that has built a reputation on providing superior quality products and service.
Their businesses produce appoximately 150kgs of plastic and cardboard waste every week, which was proving to be a real struggle for them to manage.
The Bin Trim initiative provided them with a unique opportunity to make a change for the better.
Modern Tiles enlisted a Bin Trim Assessor to assess their waste management and waste handling and determine their eligibility under the program.
Under the waste-saving initiative from the NSW Environment Protection Authority, all Small and Medium Enterprises in New South Wales now qualify for free Bin Trim assessment, to determine their eligibility for up to 50% back in rebate on recycling equipment.
The Bin Trim Assessment is a detailed study of the workings of the company. For Modern Tiles, the assessor spent time on site studying the types of waste produced, the volume of it, what the company did with internally and how it was removed from the site.
Once the assessor dertined that Modern Tiles were eligible for a rebate, they created an action plan and assisted Modern Tiles with the rebate application for the Bin Trim equipment program.
In addition, they arranged partnerships with local recylers who would collect their baled cardboard and baled plastic from them.
The potential for rebate under Bin Trim program made the decision to invest much easier for Modern Tiles. Without the rebate, the return on investment of approximately 3 years can give many companies pause for thought in the current climate.
The equipment rebate under Bin Trim accelerated that decision, and allowed for a complete return on their investment in just 18 months.
The business has already seen a 50% reduction in their waste costs, and has already recycled over 9 tons of waste that would instead have been sent to landfill.
