The Bin Trim program is a waste-saving initiative from the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) funded by the Waste Levy. This waste assessment program is designed to increase business recycling from 57% to 70% by 2021. It is the largest waste and recycling program in Australia.
It has been designed by the EPA to help businesses in NSW quickly identify simple actions they can take to start cutting waste and boost profits.
Alongside the Bin Trim program, the Bin Trim Rebate program provides recycling equipment rebates and is supported by the Environmental Trust.
This program has been granted AUD $9.3million in government grants and funding over the three years. Under this program, a range of recycling equipment is eligible for rebates of up to 50% including cardboard balers, plastic balers, and EPS compactors.
Companies that meet the eligibility criteria are entitled to 50% rebates ranging from $1000 up to $50,000. Several Eligible NSW businesses have already saved up to 80% of their costs - over $800 per month added to the bottom line.
The Bim Trim program consists of two separate parts to the umbrella program called Bin Trim, each of which has a range of benefits themselves.
The Bin Trim Visual Waste Assessment includes an action plan and assistance program for implementing actions. This part of the program does not focus on equipment until it becomes an applicable part of the action plan.
The Bin Trim Equipment Rebate program whereby if equipment is identified as a natural part of the action plan, then eligible organisations can apply for the rebate.
In order to qualify a business must be approved via strict application criteria and approval process.
The assessment is based on material diverted and/or recycled, assessed over five years of equipment use.
Mil-tek has created a handy calculation tool in order for companies to properly calculate whether they meet the assessment criteria. Simply complete the form below and we will calculate if you reach the threshold.
